A working meeting between the Municipality of Pafos and the Cyprus Ports Authority took place this week within the framework of close cooperation for the planning and promotion of important interventions in the Kato Paphos Harbour.
According to a statement by Pafos Municipality, during the meeting, the extension of the harbour entrance was discussed, as well as the expansion of the breakwater at the back of the Medieval Castle, with the aim of strengthening the protection of the historical monument and the port facilities.
As stated, "the Medieval Castle is one of the most important symbols of Paphos and we must protect it as the apple of our eye."
As part of the long-term planning, the possibility of creating a pier approximately 40-50 meters long, which could function as an anchorage point for larger cruise ships, was also discussed.
"Such infrastructure will significantly strengthen Paphos' tourism product, creating new prospects for the local economy and the further development of the region," it added.
At the same time, the creation of a fueling point within the port was considered, so that commercial and private vessels could be served safely and efficiently.
According to the announcement, special emphasis was also placed on the proper management of waste originating from vessels, by upgrading the system for its collection and disposal in appropriate areas, contributing to the protection of the marine environment and maintaining the cleanliness of the port.
As part of the aesthetic and functional upgrade of the beachfront, the design of a new single shelter in front of the shops was also discussed, which will follow the architecture and aesthetics of the existing shelters in the area.
At the same time, as reported, there was a discussion about the three existing awnings that are currently located on the pedestrian street. The specific awnings are licensed and any decision for their possible removal will be put before the Municipal Council for discussion and decision-making. Only if the required approval is obtained will any relevant action proceed, always with the aim of improving the functionality and aesthetics of the public space.
"The cooperation between the Municipality of Pafos and the Cyprus Ports Authority continues with coordination, responsibility and a shared vision for a modern, safe and functional port, which will protect our cultural heritage, strengthen the tourism product of Paphos and create new development prospects for the benefit of citizens, professionals and visitors," the announcement concludes.
