Nicosia Municipality is participating as a key partner in an EU-funded project aimed at developing the next generation of interoperable city digital twins and supporting the city’s digital transformation and sustainable urban management.
According to a municipal announcement, the 18-month Municipal project has a budget of almost €2 million and is funded by the European Commission under the Digital Europe Programme.
The project’s kick-off meeting was held in Murcia, Spain, with representatives of seven organisations from Cyprus, Greece, Denmark and Spain. The partners agreed on the first steps to connect the participating cities’ digital twins and enable the exchange of data, services and technological solutions.
A key part of the project will be cooperation between Nicosia and Murcia to develop smart services in areas such as mobility, energy efficiency, urban planning and the management of public resources and municipal services.
Municipal aims to create a European federation of interoperable digital twins, allowing public authorities to exchange information securely and make data-driven decisions.
The consortium comprises Ubitech, the Technical University of Denmark, Murcia Municipality, Ai-nergy, Nicosia Municipality, the University of Cyprus’ PHAETHON Centre of Excellence and Odins.
Nicosia Municipality said its participation would help strengthen its digital infrastructure, draw on European expertise and develop more efficient and citizen-centred services.
