GSP long jumper Filippa Fotopoulou heading to the European Championships

Gymnastikos Syllogos 'Ta Pancypria' has warmly congratulated its athlete, Filippa Fotopoulou, on her latest outstanding performances in the long jump and on securing her participation in the European Athletics Championships, which will take place in Birmingham from 10 to 16 August 2026.

As noted in a relevent announcement, on 22 May, Filippa delivered an impressive performance at the international jumping meeting at Alsos Kifisias, recording a leap of 6.78m — a mark with which she surpassed the qualifying standard of 6.77m and sealed her place at the major European event.

"Her performance in Kifisia is the second-best of her career, following her 6.79m jump in 2022, and one of the top performances in the history of Cypriot women’s long jump, behind Maroula Lambrou’s national record of 6.80m, which has stood since 1985," the announcement said.

A few days later, on 24 May 2026, at the Challenger '6th Alexandrian Meeting', the GSP athlete confirmed her excellent competitive form, claiming first place in the long jump with a leap of 6.71m, despite the particularly difficult weather conditions, with rain and wind.

"These consecutive successes are a source of great pride for GSP, as well as for Cypriot athletics. In recent years, Filippa Fotopoulou, through her talent, hard work, dedication and passion, has developed into a shining example for every young athlete who dreams of excelling in sport," the athletic group said.

It concluded, "GSP wishes Filippa every success in the upcoming competitions in which she will take part, representing both the Club and Cyprus. This latest competitive presence confirms that Filippa Fotopoulou remains firmly at the highest level and strengthens optimism for even greater achievements."
