President Christodoulides to visit India – Focus on IMEC and strengthening bilateral relations

President Nikos Christodoulides will travel to India from May 20 to 23, with the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) expected to feature prominently on the agenda.

Speaking to reporters at the Presidential Palace, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis described the visit as particularly significant. He noted that, alongside relevant ministers, the President will be accompanied by a business delegation, aiming to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

Letymbiotis highlighted that Cyprus and India have traditionally maintained close relations, which have seen notable upgrading in recent years, with further prospects for deepening cooperation.

Within this context, he referred to the IMEC corridor as an “ambitious initiative,” in which the Republic of Cyprus seeks to play a key role as a gateway, not only geographically, but also diplomatically and politically.

“It is well known that discussions around the IMEC corridor have been at the centre of our contacts in recent times, as well as the pivotal role Cyprus, together with other Mediterranean countries, can play in its implementation,” he said.

He added that decisions already taken and projects being promoted by the Republic are aligned with the corridor, particularly in relation to supply chains and beyond.

“As such, the discussions during this visit- and more importantly, the advancement of what will be agreed—carry particular importance,” Letymbiotis noted.

He further stressed that the President seeks to ensure that every official visit results in concrete outcomes, including clearly defined deliverables and implementation timelines.

“It is now evident that bilateral agreements of significant importance and value for both the Republic of Cyprus and the European Union are being implemented at a rapid pace, agreements that are not merely symbolic, but carry real substance and impact for our country,” he concluded.
