Stavriana Kofteros: The quality of decisions determines the scope of possibilities and the future of the economy

The position that "stability is not a given but the result of coordination and successful choices," was supported by Stavriana Kofteros, Founder, Partner, W11 Ventures.

During her introductory statement at the 16th Nicosia Economic Congress, the Chairperson of the event referred to the challenged facing the international economic environment, noting that the global economy is operating in a context of increased instability and limited visibility.

As she mentioned, developments in Iran and the Middle East, but also in the international geopolitical field in general, directly affect energy balances, the cost of capital and investment decisions. In such an environment, as Kofteros noted, economies are called upon to operate in conditions of increased uncertainty.

Kofteros stressed that the stability of economies should not be taken for granted, but is the result of coordinated political choices and strategic decisions. In this context, she pointed out that Cyprus is being called upon to strengthen its credibility and position itself effectively in the international economic environment.

At the same time, she emphasised that events such as the Nicosia Economic Congress are gaining in importance, as they can function as a space where political leadership and the business community co-shape strategic directions for the economy.

As she mentioned, Cyprus has significant advantages, including its strategic position in the European Union and its business environment. The critical issue, according to her, is not whether there are opportunities, but whether there will be the speed, consistency and determination to exploit them.

Concluding her statement, Kofteros raised a series of critical questions regarding the future of the Cypriot economy, such as how the resilience of the economy can be strengthened, how the country's credibility will be ensured, and how Cyprus will position itself in a rapidly changing international environment.

As she noted, the discussions that will follow at the conference are not intended to provide easy answers, since, as she mentioned, the quality of decisions ultimately determines the scope of possibilities and the future of the economy.
