Nikos Christodoulides: Cyprus is a safe tourist destination - "We are operating in conditions of complete stability"

The assessment that Cyprus is a completely safe destination for both tourism and investment and business activity is expressed by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.

In an interview with money-tourism.gr, President Christodoulides emphasises that Cyprus in operating in conditions of complete institutional and economic stability.

At the same time, the President explains that Cyprus remains a stable European pillar in a geographical area of particular geopolitical importance, presenting data that highlight the resilience of both tourism and the broader Cypriot economy.

"The course of recent years is indicative of this dynamic. In just three years, Cypriot tourism has recorded an increase of approximately forty percent in visitor arrivals and approximately fifty percent in tourism revenues. This is a development that confirms the strong position of the destination on the international tourism map and at the same time reflects the success of a model of cooperation between the State and the private sector,"  President Christodoulides emphasised and underlined that this progress is the product of long-term and systematic planning. He also noted that a broad meeting was recently held to reassess the situation as it developed after the conflicts in the Middle East and the text of the tourism strategy until 2035 was redefined.

Regarding this year, President Christodoulides appeared optimistic about the course of tourism and noted that the country has repeatedly proven that it has the ability to adapt to difficult conditions and maintain its development momentum even in times of international uncertainty.

Furthermore, he referred to the experience of the war in Ukraine, saying that it is a typical example of the resilience of Cypriot tourism, as although approximately one million Russian visitors were lost, the country managed, through targeted actions and in close cooperation with the private sector, to make up for the loss with visitors from other countries, such as Poland, Israel and other European countries.

President Christodoulides also stressed that Cyprus is not part of the region's problems, but on the contrary functions as a pillar of stability and cooperation and underlined that the island's geographical location, combined with its status as a member state of the European Union, make Cyprus an important connecting link between Europe and the Middle East.

At the same time, he stressed that he is in constant communication with European officials and institutions of the European Union with the aim of ensuring that Cyprus continues to be promoted as a completely safe and reliable tourist destination. To this end, he will be in Brussels next week for a series of contacts and interventions at the European level, he said.

Finally, President Christodoulides notes that the strategic goal of the Cypriot tourism policy is to transform the country into a complete twelve-month destination and recalls that Cyprus is an ideal destination for holidays all year round. “A place that combines history, culture, gastronomy, natural beauties and high-level hospitality,” he says. The fact that the country has one of the highest rates of repeat visitors is the strongest proof of the trust that travelers show in Cyprus, he concludes.
