Nineteen vessels under the Cypriot flag are currently in the Persian Gulf and both the ships and the crew are safe, Deputy Ministry of Shipping has said.
In a written statement, it notes that that it has been closely monitoring the situation and developments from the very beginning and is in contact with the management companies of the vessels under the Cypriot flag that are in the area.
"There are currently 19 vessels under the Cypriot flag in the Persian Gulf. Both the ships and the crew are safe. Most of them operate on a permanent basis in the region, mainly providing specialised or auxiliary maritime services," it notes.
The Deputy Ministry recalls that a circular was issued on 28 February with specific recommendations for the safety of ships and their crews.
"The safety of ships and human life at sea is a top priority of the Deputy Ministry of Shipping, which monitors developments on a 24-hour basis," it concludes.
