A 10-12% increase in fuel prices has been recorded since Friday, due to the war in Iran, the President of the Cyprus Association of Gas Station Owners, Savvas Prokopiou, has said, adding that this will be reflected in petrol station prices in Cyprus in the next 10 days.
Speaking to CNA, Prokopiou said that "we certainly expect increases," noting, however, that the increase recorded so far is not to the same extent as the corresponding one at the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2022, when it was much more intense.
Noting that over the last 15-20 days there has been a gradual increase of 10%, today the price of fuel is still 10-12% higher than Friday, he said.
"The lack of a sharp increase in the price of a barrel globally, we hope, is an indication that we will not have what we had four years ago," he said, adding that if the price of a barrel globally stabilises below $80 per barrel, it will be a positive sign.
