Cyprus Basketball Federation announces the appointment of Marinos Mitrou as General Manager

The Cyprus Basketball Federation (CBF) has announced the appointment of Marinos Mitrou to the position of General Manager of the Federation, in the context of further organisational strengthening and upgrading of its administrative operation.

As noted in a relevant announcement, "With significant experience in the management of sports organisations and clear knowledge of the needs of the modern sports environment, he assumes the role with the aim of effectively supporting the work and strategic priorities of the CBF."

Within the framework of his new duties at the CBF, Mitrou's key priorities are to strengthen the organisational and operational efficiency of the Federation and support its competitive and developmental activities, as well as the continuous improvement of services to clubs, athletes and all stakeholders in Cypriot basketball.

Mitrou is a graduate of Laniteion Lyceum and the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. He began his professional career in Athens, in the field of Information Technology. Upon his return to Cyprus, he became actively involved in the field of sports, initially taking over the Press and Public Relations Office of Anorthosis Famagusta. He then served as General Manager of the team, while, since June 2022, he has held the position of CEO, gaining substantial experience in the administrative management and strategic planning of sports organisations.

In a statement, the President of the CBF,  Andreas Mouzourides, stated that "Marinos Mitrou's assumption of the position of General Manager is a substantial step in the organisational strengthening for the Federation. His experience in professional sports, his administrative competence and his strategic approach constitute important resources for the continuation of the CBF's development path and the formation of a more modern and effective administrative framework."

On his part, Marinos Mitrou said, "The position of General Manager of the Cyprus Basketball Foundation is a special honour and responsibility. My goal is to work closely with the clubs, athletes and all people involved in the sport, in order to create a stable and modern framework that will support the development of basketball at all levels."

"The CBF expresses its warm thanks to the outgoing General Manager Athos Antoniou for his many years of work and contribution to the overall progress of the Federation, as well as to the Deputy Manager Spyros Leontaris for his contribution and professionalism, wishing them well in their personal and professional careers," the statement concluded.
