Energy Ministry Permanent Secretary takes part in energy conference in Egypt

The strong and strategic relations between Cyprus and Egypt in the natural gas sector were highlighted in a discussion within the framework of the Egypt’s Energy Horizon 2040 conference, with the participation of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry's Permanent Secretary, Kyriakos Iordanou, in Cairo.

Iordanou earlier this week participated in the conference 'Egypt’s Energy Horizon 2040: Balancing Growth, Security & Decarbonization', organised in Cairo by the EU Delegation to Egypt, in cooperation with the Government of Egypt, the Ministry said in a press release.

The Permanent Secretary took part in a roundtable discussion on 'Gas in the Spotlight of the Energy Transition,' “during which the strong and strategic relations between Cyprus and Egypt in the natural gas sector were highlighted, as well as the close cooperation between the two countries.”

“Among other things, it was emphasised that Egypt’s developed energy infrastructure makes it a reliable partner in the region, while Cyprus’ natural gas is expected to play an important role in strengthening the energy security of the two countries, as well as in supplying the European market,” the announcement adds.

It is noted that on the sidelines of the conference, Iordanou met with Osama Mobarez, Secretary General of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Cairo, Poly Ioannou.

During the meeting, Cyprus’ support for the Organisation was confirmed, as well as its active contribution to the efforts for its further consolidation and development, further strengthening Cyprus’ position in the energy planning of the region, the press release concludes.
