The Deputy Ministry of Tourism has announced the launch of regular flights from Kazakhstan to Cyprus.
As stated, this is a development of historic significance, as Cyprus is connected directly with the Central Asian country for the first time.
According to the Deputy Ministry, the flights are scheduled to start in early June 2026 and will connect Larnaca Airport with Kazakhstan's two most important cities, the capital Astana and the most populous city Almaty. The route will be operated by Air Astana, with two flights per week, every Tuesday and Saturday, from Astana and two flights per week, every Thursday and Sunday, from Almaty.
It is added that in a statement, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostas Koumis, said that for the government, opening up new markets in the tourism sector is an action of paramount importance.
"The launch of direct flights from Kazakhstan to our country is undoubtedly a success, and I am sure that it will prove beneficial for our country's tourism sector, but also for other sectors over time. From next June, Larnaca Airport will become one of the few Mediterranean airports with direct connections to Kazakhstan, and this is something that honours us both as a government and as a country," he noted.
"Kazakhstan is not just a new market, it is the largest economy in Central Asia and we believe that it can become a good market for our country's tourism in the long term, but also an additional destination for us Cypriots. It is our responsibility to provide excellent hospitality to Kazakh visitors, but also to establish closer relations in the field of tourism," he added.
Koumis added that the Deputy Ministry of Tourism has already planned to participate in the Almaty tourism exhibition next April, "in an effort to strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors in the field of tourism between the two countries."
