Tourism Minister and Nicosia Mayor discuss upgrading capital as a destination

Deputy Minister for Tourism Kostas Koumis and Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos have discussed an action plan for the promotion of Nicosia as a sustainable, alternative tourism destination.

"I believe that it is the responsibility of all of us to upgrade our capital city as regards the tourism sector, " the Deputy Minister stressed on 17 December.

He also said that, by 2027, it is expected that the number of tourist beds in Nicosia will double, since at least four more units with an equal number of beds are expected to operate.

He noted Nicosia's recent award as Culinary Capital 2024 by the World Food Travel Association and the award as Best Beverage Experience Destination for Culinary Travellers.

The Mayor of Nicosia said that the capital can contribute substantially to the upgrading of the country's hospitality product, offering different characteristics from the country's traditional tourist destinations.

Nicosia, he added, can build on its comparative advantages, that is to say its culture and history, its gastronomy and architectural wealth, but also the potential of an extroverted European economic, administrative, academic and research centre.
