President Christodoulides in Brussels for European Council meeting

President Nikos Christodoulides is in Brussels to take part in the European Council.

According to a press release issued by the Presidency, President Christodoulides also participated in the EU–Western Balkans Summit on the evening of 17 December, and will this morning, Thursday, 18 December, take part in the European People’s Party (EPP) Summit. He will then hold a meeting with a number of other European leaders, with migration as the main topic of discussion.

Subsequently, according to the press release, he will participate in the proceedings of the European Council, on the sidelines of which he will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts and with EU institutions, in view of the assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the EU by the Republic of Cyprus.

During the European Council proceedings, leaders will be briefed on developments in Ukraine by the country's President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

This will be followed by a working lunch on Enlargement. Leaders will then discuss the Multiannual Financial Framework 2028–2034 and the situation in the Middle East.

In the evening, the leaders of the member states will hold a working dinner, during which issues related to geoeconomics and competitiveness will be discussed.

The President of the Republic, who is accompanied in Brussels by the Government Spokesman, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, the Director of the President’s Press Office, Victor Papadopoulos, the Deputy Director of the President’s Diplomatic Office, Nektarios Sotiriou, and other officials, will return to Cyprus on Friday, 19 December.
