Cypriot Presidency is ready to advance the European transport agenda, Minister Vafeades says

The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU “is ready to take on this responsibility and advance the European transport agenda,” focusing on how “to establish and strengthen strong and reliable connections that will contribute to European unity and cohesion,” Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeades, has said.

He was making statements upon his 4 December arrival at the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (TTE) in Brussels, during which he will present the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency on the transport sector.

The Minister stressed that Cyprus assumes the responsibility of the Presidency “with our focus being on what is important for Europe: connectivity, sustainability and accessibility.” He noted that “for a Union based on freedom of movement, creating strong and reliable connections is not just a technical issue; it is a cornerstone of European unity and cohesion.”

The Minister also thanked the Danish Presidency “for the great work they have done over the past six months,” emphasizing that their contribution has been crucial for the continuation of the Council’s work.
