EIB Board meeting in Cyprus for the first time on 29 and 30 September

The Board of Directors of the European Investment Bank (EIB), the Bank’s highest decision-making body, is meeting in Cyprus on Monday and Tuesday for the first time.

Officials from the 27 EU member states and EIB shareholders are gathered in Limassol for the meeting, underlining the importance of Cyprus as a key partner of the EIB and in view of the upcoming Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The main part of the proceedings will take place on Tuesday at the Grand Resort Hotel in Limassol.

On Monday at 16:00 (local time), the EIB Board members will visit the West Limassol Biological Wastewater Treatment, a project co-financed by the Bank. On Monday evening, they will attend a working dinner hosted by Finance Minister Makis Keravnos.

On Tuesday at 12:00, the meeting will be addressed by President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides, who will then hold a private meeting with EIB President Nadia Calviño.

Over the past five years, the EIB has invested more than €1.5 billion in Cyprus. Just last week, three new financing agreements were signed: €50 million for the "Thalia 2021–2027" programme, €5 million for the expansion and upgrading of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics’ infrastructure, and €62.5 million in cooperation with Eurobank to support Cypriot SMEs and start-ups under the InvestEU programme.
