President Christodoulides highlights Cyprus-US cooperation at a meeting with fire investigation experts

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, highlighted the importance of continuing and strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and the United States during his meeting with the American team of experts from ATF, investigating the causes of the devastating fires in the district of Limassol.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency, welcoming the team to the Presidential Palace on Monday, 18 August, the President of the Republic, among other things, thanked the US Government for its immediate and positive response to the request of the Government for assistance with the recent wildfires in Limassol, adding that he considers issue a common challenge.

“We all see what's going on in Southern Europe, especially. And the situation will get worse and worse so we need to be ready and we're very glad always to work with the US government,” he added.

Christodoulides also noted that immediately after taking office, the Government cooperated with the FBI to address another challenge, adding that bilateral cooperation covers many areas, such as politics, the economy, trade, security and others, while noting that cooperation will continue and be strengthened.

He also stressed that the Cypriot Government is ready to listen to the experts and their findings.

It is added that the American experts emphasised their excellent cooperation with the authorities of the Republic and expressed the hope that their findings will shed light on the investigation into the causes of the fires in order to address any future challenges.
